Marvin Mumford

Camp Director / MC

Marvin broke onto the scene as the lead singer for the group “Coming Soon”, which released their first project in 2002 called “Coming to A Soul Near You”. Following a three year tour with the band in 2005, Marvin launched out on a solo career and released his worship debut album “Worship for an Audience of One”. The cd became an instant praise and worship classic with songs like, “Let Your Spirit Fall, Bless The Mighty Name, More of You, and What A Mighty God”. His style of worship which mixes CCM and Gospel music together to create what he calls “The Kingdom Sound” began to spark a worship and racial revival across the country. The ability to share worship in such a cross cultural and multi-ethnic way made him one of today’s most saut after worship leaders and speakers.

In 2007 he released a single entitled, “Dance in the Rain”. The song quickly became the anthem for those who were experiencing loss and pain. The song was written to provide hope and encouragement for he and his wife during a very hard time in their lives. Yet, God used the song to minister to thousands across the globe. “I wrote this song out of a place of much pain and hurt. My wife and I were at a place of really giving up on the church, people, and God. I was a pastor on staff at the time and we had been really hurt emotionally, spiritually, and just physically drained. We were done, and I remember going to church that Sunday ready to resign. We had a guess come that Sunday to share her testimony from the Billy Graham Evangelist Association. She began to talk about all the things she had gone through over a 5 year period. It was one of the most devastating life stories I had ever heard. And it really put my life in perspective for me, although my life was in turmoil it was no where near the life of this young lady. And as she closed her story she said, “It has rained a lot in my life but God, has taught me to “Dance In The Rain”. It was if someone had unclogged a water fall, as I began to weep uncontrollably. As well I felt this overwhelming nudge to write at the same time. The song was like a release for me, I shared it with my wife immediately after church. I recorded the song about 2 weeks later and shared it with some friends. They were moved to tears as well, because they had been dealing with the loss of a their Father. I uploaded the song to my cdbaby & itunes account, and people began purchasing the song all over the country. They were sharing it with loved ones and friends. We made a small lyric video for youtube, and it just seem to explode. We began to get emails about how the song was helping the healing process of loss and pain for so many people. It was overwhelming, and to think that it was just written to help me and my wife cope with our life”.

Marvin’s follow up cd release, “The Color of Worship” in 2008 gave a glimpse into the heart of this amazing worship leader. The songs where remakes of some of today’s biggest worship classics from a new multi-cultural perspective. In 2010 he released a children’s worship cd entitled, “SHOUT” Worship 4 Kidz Vol. Marvin has also completed a musical journal DVD, that chronicles 2 months of his life as a worship leader thru song. The series is available on Youtube entitled, “The 30-30 Worship Campaign”.

In 2012 he released his latest cd entitled “Rescued Me”, which was a song documentary of his life and journey to salvation. This critically acclaimed cd has open the doors to so many new opportunities for him. Such as being named the National Worship Leader 2014 for The Fellowship Of Christian Athletes. Marvin has been a part of the K-Love Cruise artist roster 2014 & 2015. He is also an instructor and artist for Camp Electric www.campelectric.com. A music camp for teenagers ages 13-19 hosted by TobyMac each year in Nashville, TN & Cedarville, Ohio.

Marvin has been an ordained pastor for over 12 yrs. and speaks at conferences, retreats, colleges, camps, churches, and festivals all over the country. His heart to see the lost saved and the saved on fire for Christ is contagious. His passion for souls fuels him each day to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ whether through song, the word, or by just doing life with others. His involvement with the inner city across the country has given him a platform to help churches become more active in bridging the gap and building relationships with the inner city. Marvin is one of the first artist to sign up with World Hope www.weareworldhope.com as an musical ambassador. “World Hope is doing an amazing job around the globe, and I fell in love with them when I found out about the #DetroitRevival. I consider myself a domestic missionary and hearing what their vision was for Detroit, Michigan just blew me away. I knew then that I needed to be a part of what God was doing through this great organization”. Since then World Hope has partnered with Marvin and his son Marvin II to sponsor their current 15 city 25 show “Heart & Soul” tour. An incredible night of worship with special guess Bernard Harris & Charles Walker. Each evening concludes with the Gospel message entitled, “I Am Nineveh” be shared by Marvin. “The evening is designed to give hope to the non-believer and inspire the believer to keep going.

We never want to gather and now share the word or give someone the opportunity to come to know Christ as their Savior & Lord”, says Marvin.
